Disadvantages of chemical treatments for Poultry Red Mite
Available treament typically involves the use of toxic chemicals known as Acaricides or Miticides
Acaricides are toxic for Eggs, Poultry and Humans
Acaridices are also environmentally hazardous, complex & expensive
Treatment with acaricides usually requires emptying of the facility
Application using spray treatments must be performed with high pressure and sufficient force to penetrate mite's hiding places.
Facility must be cleaned thoroughly to remove residuals
With repeated use, poultry red mite develop resistance to acaricides and their effectiveness decreases, requiring higher dosages
