Negative effects of Poultry Red Mite

The Red Mite usually feeds around the breast and legs area of the laying hens, causing the following -

• Decrease in egg production in female

• Decrease the size of the egg

• Decrease in egg quality and appearance (blood stains on eggs)

• Skin infections (in areas with thin skin)

• Anemia (blood loss of up to 6%)

• Lack of sleep and stress

• Transfer of diseases: Sallmonella spp, S.E, Newcastle Disease

• Weight loss and increased mortality
